Project: The effects

of uremic toxins on fibrosis in myocardial infarction

and uremic cardiomyopathy

PI: Heidi Noels

Inflammation and fibrosis are two important mechanisms underlying CVD.

It is known that CKD or the uremic toxins accumulating in the body of CKD patients are related to systemic inflammation, which has been hypothesized to contribute to an increased risk of CKD patients to suffer from CVDs.

How exactly uremic toxins influence fibrosis remained to be examined.
