Project: Modulation of the sympathetic nervous system prevents the development of an atrial arrhythmogenic substrate in CKD

PI: Mathias Hohl

In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) atrial fibrillation (AF) is a risk factor for ischemic stroke and death. CKD is associated with atrial pro-arrhythmogenic remodelling and activation of the sympathetic nervous system, a trigger for AF. We investigate the question, whether a reduction of renal sympathetic nerve activity inhibits AF-vulnerability in a rat model of adenine-induced CKD.
