Prof. Dr. Jürgen Floege honored with the Franz Volhard-Medal

In 2020, the German Society of Nephrology (DGfN) awarded its highest honor, the Franz Volhard Medal, to Prof. Dr. Jürgen Floege, Director of the Clinic for Renal and Hypertensive Diseases at RWTH Aachen University Hospital, and PI in the SFB/TRR219.

The medal has been awarded since 1976 in recognition of many years of outstanding achievements in the field of renal and hypertensive diseases. The award ceremony took place on October 1st 2020 during the annual meeting of the DGfN in Berlin.

The scientific focus of Prof. Dr. Floege, which is recorded in more than 600 original articles, reviews, editorials and book chapters, includes kidney diseases and their central importance for internal medicine, for example in the development of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, Prof. Floege is editor of the worldwide best-selling textbook "Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology" and serves as co-editor of the leading nephrology journal "Kidney International".

In addition to his work as Clinic Director at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen, Prof. Floege is involved in renowned societies, committees and guideline organizations. He is a founding member and past-president of the German Society of Nephrology (DGfN), past-president of the German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM), and is in the steering committee of KDIGO - an organization that produces globally valid guidelines in nephrology.
