Virtual CardioRenal Winter School 2021 - Perspective of 3 medical students working on their Dr. med. Thesis
This year’s cardiorenal winterschool was held online and comprised three afternoons of scientific presentation and discussion. PhD- and MD-students of the graduate school SFB/TRR219 and four European research programs (INTRICARE, CaReSyAn, Strategy CKD, Eurlipids) took part in this event.
All students had the chance to present their projects, either in small breakout rooms or in front of the whole audience. Thus, we have not only learned about exciting research from our colleagues, but also received helpful input for our own topic. In addition to cardiorenal research, the winterschool was complemented with interesting talks about flow cytometry and protein designing.
Despite the digital format, lively discussions were held and we had time for getting to know our colleagues. Especially the Clinician-Scientist-session was a great opportunity to learn from young physicians how they combine a medical career with research.
Overall, the virtual winterschool was a success and offered the chance of seeing the bigger picture, uniting all our individual research. It has definitely helped us in advancing our projects as well as our career planning.
