In March 2021, our PhD/MD students had the opportunity to participate in an online workshop on project management given by Dr. Sandra Dierig from “einszeit managementberatung & coaching”. This workshop focused not only on planning of the PhD trajectory and its associated project(s), but also on further project planning after the PhD. The students have gained insight into different planning approaches by applying various methods provided by the trainer. For example, different projects of some PhD students were selected and the Canvas method was used to design these projects. In the second part of the workshop, they created a timetable which shows the phases and work streams as well as the main milestones within the remaining time of their PhD trajectory. The trainer also presented various literature, software and tools that can be used for planning and managing projects, such as Trello. Another topic was getting to know traditional and agile project management and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods. At the end of the day, the students learned how to design their projects, plan the realization and evaluate the process.
